Myofascial Release & Yin Yoga

This workshop combines the use of myofascial release techniques and Yin Yoga asanas. Myofascial Release is a safe hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure onto them Myo Fascial connective tissue restrictions in order to reduce or eliminate pain, restore motion and improve overall health. Today, MFR is being incorporated into various movement therapies, such as yoga. In fact, Yin Yoga is in essence a form of MFR as it works to stress and release the fascial tissue through our postures. When we incorporate the tools of MFR with Yin Yoga we can open the body more fully to increase the circulation of the blood & chi energy to the tissues of the body aiding in the relief of discomforts that are associated with a multitude of physical disorders. This workshop will melt your stress away and let you reconnect to your body in a gentle and more compassionate way.
Myo refers to muscle; and fascia is an interwoven three dimensionally network of connective tissue made of gel and fibers that covers and encapsulates every structure in the body including muscles, bones, organs, nerves and bloodvessels. The Fascial system binds the human body in an integral whole to allow proper function of structures and organs. It is fascia that keeps us upright in gravity to support our posture and movement three dimensionally. Fascia also acts as a shock absorber. There fore, its elasticity and fluidity is crucial for protecting our body from injury and trauma. In a normal healthy state, fascia is hydrated and pliable, with the ability to glide and stretch freely. Through injury, trauma, surgery, overuse, under use and poor posture, fascia loses its natural form and becomes ropy, hardened and tough, think about leather or a beef jerkey. Myofascial restrictions are believed to exert tremendous pressure on the muscular-skeletal system as well as organs and other pain sensitive structures like nerves and blood vessels, which over time can lead to unexplained dysfunction and pain. We have learned that myofascial restrictions do not show up on standardized test such as X- rays, MRI’s, CT scans, etc. It is no wonder that so many people are suffering with unresolved pain, dysfunction and loss of motion, either get misdiagnosed or given the wrong type of treatment/care.
About Nina Watson
Nina Watson is an International ERYT500 Yoga, Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist, Pilates, Yoga Tune Up® ,Yin, Meditation and Mindfulness teacher from the Netherlands, with more than two decades of teaching experience. She holds a degree in education, special needs and has a gift for teaching. Nina has a strong interest in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology and meditation and is passionate about educating and inspiring students to use yoga as medicine by using both Eastern and Westen perspectives in her training. “Nowadays we live so much in our head that if we are not careful we become detached from our bodies.” By inviting people to take residence into their bodies, they ease tension, establish body awareness and learn to re-connect with themselves. She has been living and teaching in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Currently she lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where she teaches workshops, myofascial release, teacher trainings and specializes in one on one private therapeutic sessions tailored to the students needs. Nina continues to be a dedicated student of anatomy, movement and meditation in order to be of service to her students.
